Secretary's KO Cup win for K W Athletic

Atletico New Inn 1 v 5 K W Athletic

Division Five K W Athletic secured an emphatic win over their higher division opponents.

At the start both teams kept the game tight and it was not until the 19th minute that the first clear cut chance fell to K W’s Louie Johnson, who was put clear but saw his cross shot go past the far post. Six minutes later though, KW’s captain Lee Burns, a veteran of over 1,000 matches used his experience to turn past two Atletico defenders and his left foot shot from just inside the box comfortably beat Luke McReey. After 25 minutes the lead was doubled when Jake Baker got on to the end of a knock down and hit the net with a clinical finish. KW were now in full flow and Dan Scott forced McReey to tip his effort over the bar. It was not until 41 minutes had gone on the clock that New Inn brought the first save from keeper Jordan Marchant who comfortably dealt with Ben Finch’s effort.

Three minutes in to the second half, K W wasted no time in putting he game beyond reach, New Inn’s defenders failed to clear the ball and Scott fired home from long range. It was all KW now and Burns saw a curling free kick turned away, then Louie Johnson was in the six yard box to get on the end of a cross that left him with simple tap in to put his team 4 – 0 up after 74 minutes, five minutes later K W went nap when Louie Mullholland found himself unmarked in the box to find the net.

As the game entered the 90th minute New Inn grabbed a consolation as Richard Wilton fired home a 25 yard free kick which took a deflection on the way to the net.
