Jack Matthews scores the winning penalty for Aberford Albion

Aberford Albion 1-1 Sherburn White Rose Aberford Albion won 4-2 on penalty kicks

Aberford came back from a goal down to win the Challenge Cup on penalties.
Sherburn WR took an early lead after only 3 minutes when Jordan Richards handled in his own area. The resulting penalty was dispatched by Darrell Young to put Sherburn 1-0 up. Sherburn continued to have the better of the first half with Danny Middleton and Jamie Williams combining well up front. This brought a change in formation from Aberford manager Phil Sharpe with captain Stephen Woolford dropping back to form a back three. Aberford were able to consolidate until half time and keep the score down to 1-0.
It was the inevitable game of two halves as Aberford started the second half on the front foot. The breakthrough came on 69 minutes when Aaron Hudson levelled slotting past Lee Kelsey. Both Middleton and Williams had chances for Sherburn that neither could convert. Woolford forced a good save from Kelsey late on with substitute Simmeon Bambrook blasting way over in the last minute of normal time to take the game to extra time. Extra Time saw chances few and far between Bambrook shot from the edge of the area but it was well saved again by Kelsey whilst at the other end Young, Middleton and Williams all had shots blocked by Woolford.
So to penalty kicks and after two missed by Sheburn up stepped Jack Matthews to score the winning penalty for Aberford.
A great day for a cup final the crowd of over 400 enjoyed an Easter Monday in the sun at Tadcaster.
Man of the Match award was presented to Stephen Woolford having been run close by Danny Middleton.
