Basingstoke & District Saturday League Match Reports

The Basingstoke Saturday League program was restricted again to just four matches starting and one of these was abandoned at half time
Basingstoke B Cup Semi Finals
Fortunately the Basingstoke B Cup Semi Final between Basingstoke Labour Club and AFC Berg did take place at Brighton Hill and Labour through after winning 2-1 after extra time are in the Final. They will however have to wait until this coming weekend to find out who they will meet in the Final on 29th April to see who their opponents are, as the Semi Final between Herriard Sports and Winklebury Wizards was abandoned at half time. It was a bad mistake by the Berg keeper Torden Kirrage in the 20th minute that handed Labour with the opener. Instead of picking up a though ball from Jack Barlow, who had replaced the injured Nathan Read as early as the 5th minute, opted to fly kick, he sliced his clearance and it gave Arron Johns his chance to pounce on the loose ball to net. As Berg tried to get level, both Gavin Harkness and Louis Chambers looked in fine form in the heart of the Labour defence until the equalizer came in the 70th minute. Mason Saunders, way out on the wing, tried a deep cross into the box and it ended up in the far corner of the net. In the 80th a great goal line clearance by Charlie Costen stopped Gavin Curry giving Berg the lead and Keiran Allayne hit a chance over the bar. Jack Barlow, celebrating eighteenth birthday, was unable to snap up a chance after a clearance from Kirrage hit him on he back With the scores still level at 90 minutes, extra time was played and with five minutes left came the winner. Curry was adjudged to have handled a shot from Martin Wieorski, a penalty was awarded and Wayne Barlow put the spot kick home.
The other Semi Final at Herriard was ruled fit for play but at half time when the score was 2-2, Referee Train decided the pitch was not good enough to continue and the match was abandoned. It will now be played again at Herriard this coming Saturday. It was Wizards who had a good start and took a 4th minute lead when Dan Hargood scored after playing a one two with George Lagden. Herriard drew level two minutes later when Wizards keeper Vincent Mundane could not deal with a long shot from Alex Roberts and under pressure from Sam Cato could only half clear and Matt Goodman snapped up his chance to net. In the 14th Herriard regained the lead through Alex Roberts, a 25 yarder beat Mundane following a Goodman pass. Within two minutes the scores were level again when Aaron Barton was at he back post to force home the Alex Stevens cross into the net. As the pitch began to deteriorate, the referee called a halt.
Peter Raynbird Cup Quarter FinaAs expected Hook are through to the Semi Finals the Peter Raynbird Cup after beating Division Two Twentyten Reserves 5-0 at Preston Candover. Although he accepted Hook were the better side, Graham Jenkins, the Twentyten Manager felt the score flattered the Division One outfit. It took Hook ten minutes to take the lead when Dan Mellors curled in a shot following a pass from Dan Mouradian. In the 22nd a corner taken by Dan Framp was headed home by Sam Barker and within three minutes it became 3-0. The 25 yard shot from Trump beating the keeper, after receiving a pass from Pete Silvester. Twentyten improved after this poor start and Frankin Spacagna forced a very good save from the keeper Greg Archer and after this they had a few half chances. It was not until the 68th minute before Hook extended their lead to 4-0, Silvester scoring with a defdlcted shot following a cross from Mouradian. The final goal came in the 78th when over came a cross from, James Neville and Tom Davies finished well.
Basingstoke Saturday League
Division One
I went to Castle Field for the Division One match between Bounty United and Tadley where no referee arrived and Bounty midfielder Steve Bucksey took the whistle.
The final result was 7-1 to the visitors, but I stayed for the first 20 minutes and left when the rains came and Tadley were 4-0 ahead. It took Tadley five minutes to go in front, who else but Kye Theodore opened the scoring with Bounty defence all at sea when he put away a pass from Stephen Burgess. In the eighth more there was more chaotic defending and a cross from Peter White ended up with Jack Murphy shooting into his own net. . Theodore then scored two quick goals to complete his fourth hat trick in the last five matches and taking his tally to 32 for the season. White put away a penalty after Theodore was fouled for a 5-0 lead. Jordon Willis did hit back with a 25 yard shot following a corner taken by Matt Love in the 28th minute. A flick on by Lee Champion gave White his second and a header from Michael Abbott from a Gary Hibbs corner completed the scoring. Well in front it gave |Bradley Nash, the Tadley manager a chance to have a run out and he forced a fine save from Richie Vinn.
North Hants May Cup Final.
The North Hants May Cup Final due to be played at the Whitchurch United Ground on Tuesday evening, has been postponed.
The reason for the postponement is because Broughton who lost to Kingsclere in the Quarter Finals, protested their opponents had played an ineligible player. At the North Hants FA Cup meeting on Monday evening, Kingsclere were removed from the competition and Broughton go through to the Semi Final. They are allowed 14 days to appeal against the decision, therefore the Semi Final against D.C.U.K.on Saturday and the Final will be played at a later date. The Semi Final of the Peter Raynbird Cup between Hook and DCUK has now been brought forward to this Saturday.
