Basingstoke Junior ‘B’ Cup

Overton United FC B are through to the Semi Finals of the Basingstoke Saturday Junior ‘B’ Cup after a very easy 7-0 win against AFC Berg. The Berg cause was not helped when they lost their goalkeeper Simon Edwards injured in the second half and with the subs already on they played the last half hour with ten men. Goals from Paul Eldridge, Tito Martins, Kieran Chard and Richard Spiers saw them comfortably four up and with twenty minutes to go on came Kyle Buckland to score the final brace.

Basingstoke Saturday League

Division One

Sherborne St John FC joins Hook FC on level points at the top of the Division One table after beating Basingstoke Athletic FC 6-3 at home and so completing the double over them. It was Athletic taking a two goal lead through Matt Button and Dean Mophasa, but Sherborne came back to level by half time, with an own goal in off Toby Hyde and then Alex Izzo scoring the first of his three. Izzo snapped up his second following up after keeper Steven Mackrill had mishandled a shot from Sachin Rai and he completed his hat trick with low shot from the edge of the box. Athletic pulled another goal back. Sherborne’s Rai beat two men to make it 5-3 and the final goal came when a long wind assisted cross from Jarad Moore ended up in the net.

Division Two

I went to Herriard to see the leaders Herriard Sports FC play Bounty United FC and the game ended in a credible 1-1 draw in very windy conditions. Matt Love and Matt King were off target with a couple of efforts for Bounty and in the 24th minute Jordon Willis had a certain goal cleared off the line by Sam Weber. At the other end Sam Cato shot straight at keeper Ricky Vinn in a one on one. Bounty did manage a goal on the break from Matt King, but it was disallowed for hand ball. It was in the 61st minute when the deadlock was broken. Fine individual play from Weber saw him cut in from the left and pull back a perfect ball for the unmarked Cato to have the simple chance of placing the ball into the net from ten yards out. It was Bounty who had the better of the second half and Steven Wood, even though not a regular keeper, did well to tip over the bar from Matt King from a Mitchell Stokes corner kick. Weber should have doubled the lead in the 75th minute when he hit an easy chance wide, but it was Bounty well on top when a ball down the left flank by Stokes was picked up by King and his well placed centre was headed firmly past Wood by Matt Love. Both sides had chances to win the game, with Stokes going through and shooting straight at the keeper and at the other end Cato hit a decent chance wide
After their bright start to the season, TDI Group FC suffered a heavy defeat at AFC Aldermaston by losing 6-0 to their “A” team. TDI Group FC fell behind in the 10th minute when Kevin Flain put away a good ball from Graham Bone and soon after Matthew Hayes made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Flain headed a Tony Johnson cross home to see them three goals down at the break. Flain went on to net two more goals to make his tally four and a bullet header from Ben Salisbury from another Johnson cross ended the proceedings.
