Basingstoke Junior ‘A’ Cup.

Sherborne St John FC went into their Basingstoke Junior ‘A’ Cup First Round tie against Twentyten FC boasting a 100% win record in all competitions this season. However, Sherborne St John came down to earth when they were knocked out at the first hurdle and were beaten comprehensively 5-1 away from home by Alan Spacagna’s young side. Sherborne were without their regular keeper and had four other members of their regular squad missing. TwentyTen FC were also short on players and Manager Alan Spagagna had to play the whole of the game. It was Jordon Wainwright who shone for the depleted Twentyten, scoring four of their five goals. Wainwright opened his account in the 15th minute when the Sherborne Keeper was unable to hold a shot from Ryan Lupton and he followed up to put away the rebound. Ten minutes later it was a misunderstanding in the visitors’ defence that led to Wainwright having a tap in for number two. Sherborne hit back with a goal from James Lovell following a flick on from Ibrahim Waheed to give them hope for a good second half. Wainwright soon put Sherborne’s hopes to bed when he played a one two with Joe Osborne to complete his straight hat trick in the 65th minute. The next calamity for Sherborne came when a free kick from Jake Tanner was fumbled and Joe Osborne followed up and made it 4-1. With five minutes to go a long throw by Lupton led to Wainwright, completely unmarked in the six yard box, helping himself top his fifth goal with a cool finish. Twentyten will now meet Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ away in the Quarter Finals.

Basingstoke Junior ‘B’ Cup.

Tron FC are through to the last eight after beating Basingstoke United 3-1 at Stratton Park. Tron took a 25th minute lead when a long clearance kick from their keeper Kevin Beaumont was picked up by Richard Kalwarczyk in the centre circle, he played a quick one two with Joe Harris, then rode a challenge from Callum Silcox on route towards goal before chipping the stranded Basingstoke United Keeper James Sallows from 18 yards. In the 34th minute it became 2-0 when Ben Nicholls took a pass from Sam Nicholls down the right hand flank and his shot gave Sallows no chance. Just before the break Sam Nicholls put them three up following a free kick. Harris chipped the ball up and Nicholls fired home with a stunning 35 yard volley which flew into the top corner. There was some improvement from United in the second half, Gus Reis went close with two good efforts, but Tron looked in control and only a goal line clearance from Silcox stopped Ben Nicholls scoring again. There was just two minutes left when United did reply. A good ball over the top from Ash Pearce saw Tom Hartley beat the offside trap and go on to net a consolation. Tron FC will face Hook FC Reserves in the Quarter Finals.

AFC Aldermaston ‘A’ could not raise a team to play Herriard Sports FC, who will now go through to meet TDI Group FC away in the Quarter Finals of the cup that they won last season.
